Kate Scott, the Philadelphia 76ers‘ television play-by-play announcer for NBC Sports Philadelphia, will become the first female broadcaster to call an NFL radio broadcast for Westwood One, according to a report from The Athletic (subscription required). Scott has been selected to work alongside retired NFL tight end Kyle Rudolph during Week 4’s matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland. She impressed Westwood One brass following a soccer broadcast earlier this year.

“Kate did one of our US Soccer broadcasts this summer, and I was impressed with the way she quickly went back into radio mode despite mostly doing TV,” Westwood One vice president and executive producer Mike Eaby told The Athletic. “We needed an announcer for our NFL Dublin Game, and knowing that Kate does a terrific job on Seahawks preseason games and did a few 49ers preseason games on the radio in the past, she was an obvious choice.”

Scott has called Seattle Seahawks preseason games on local radio since 2023. Later this month, Scott will become the first-ever woman broadcaster to call an NFL game for one of the league’s regular-season broadcast partners. In this trailblazing case, the radio call of the NFL’s International Series game in Week 4 will be carried on Westwood One, the NFL’s exclusive radio broadcasting partner for the last 39 years.

This is not the first time that Scott has blazed a trail for future broadcasters to follow. In 2017, she became the first woman to call the action for the Pac-12 Network. In March 2020, Scott joined AJ Mleczko and Kendall Coyne Schofield to form the first-ever all-women’s broadcast crew for an NHL game in the United States

Many NFL fans tuning into the international radio broadcast may already be familiar with Scott’s voice work through her role in the EA Sports Madden 25 football video game. Last season, she was paired with retired NFL quarterback Brock Huard as one of three rotating broadcast teams to provide a running dialogue during video game matchups.

Scott’s international trip occurs before the Sixers’ preseason gets underway on October 2. Her broadcast will take place on Sept. 28 from Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland. The kick-off is scheduled for 9:30 AM ET on the final weekend of September. Fans who wish to support the broadcast can do so online through the Westwood One Sports website.
