The Police Benevolent Association of New York is congratulating a trio of forest rangers for helping to rescue hikers in the Hudson Valley who got lost while using psychedelic mushrooms.The incident happened in Shandaken on Aug. 29, when four hikers called to say they were lost in the Slide Mountain Wilderness near Giant Ledge. The group had been eating magic mushrooms during their hike and were lost in an area with several sheer cliffs and drops, according to officials. One of the hikers was experiencing what officials called a debilitating high from the mushrooms.A team of three New York Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers met the group at dusk and helped lead them safely down from Giant Ledge. The group was taken back afterward to get their missing car keys and personal belongings.The PBA thanked the rangers for their assistance and dedication at the start of the busy Labor Day weekend.
