Journalist Marco D’Amico recently commented on a disappointing possibility for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
Like it or not, at the 2025 Habs training camp, a big decision will also have to be made in net, as Kaapo Kahkonen is eligible for NHL waivers (Jakub Dobes is not).
What will Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton do if Dobes and Kahkonen have similar camps?
D’Amico answered the question.
“All a question of when in preseason he’s waived.
I think there’s a chance.” – Marco D’Amico
D’Amico therefore believes there is a real chance that Kahkonen would be claimed off waivers, and this is a new clue pointing in that direction.
For several weeks now, multiple sources have been mentioning the exact same thing: Kahkonen would be claimed on waivers if he’s made available.
Everything indicates that the Montreal Canadiens’ new goaltending acquisition, Kaapo Kahkonen, would be claimed off NHL waivers
Will Kent Hughes still take the risk of sending him down?
He just arrived in Montreal, the Canadiens’ management wanted him, and he really fills a key role in the organization.
This will definitely be a fascinating situation to follow regarding Kaapo Kahkonen’s future.
Will the Canadiens consider going back to the infamous three-goalie system in order to avoid losing Kahkonen “for nothing,” while still keeping young Jakub Dobes in Montreal?
Earlier this summer, Jakub Dobes made some bold comments on Kaapo Kahkonen’s arrival in Montreal.
Kaapo Kahkonen, 29 years old, is a 6-foot-3, 220-pound goaltender who was drafted in the 4th round by the Minnesota Wild in 2014.
He has played in 140 career NHL games, with a record of 49 wins, 68 losses, and 15 overtime losses, a goals-against average of 3.34, and a save percentage of .898.
His time with the struggling San Jose Sharks definitely hurt his stats, to put it that way.
