The Clippers secured a walk-off victory while wearing the Blue Jackets logo on their chests, as they were sporting jerseys inspired by the city’s NHL team for Columbus Blue Jackets night on Sept. 4.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Clippers were tied with Indianapolis, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ affiliate, when second baseman Travis Bazzana hit a two-run home run to give the Clippers a 5-3 victory.
Blue Jackets Dante Fabbro, Erik Gudbranson, Elvis Merzlikins and Mathieu Olivier were in attendance and participated in a meet-and-greet with fans prior to first pitch.
Olivier was on the mound for the honorary first pitch, but rather than throw the baseball, he used a hockey stick to shoot the pitch.
The Blue Jackets’ first preseason game is set for Sept. 21 against the St. Louis Blues at Nationwide Arena.
