The Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens can breathe a little bit easier today after getting their first wins of the 2025 NHL playoffs on Friday.

The wins helped both teams avoid 3-0 deficits in their respective series and now the teams have an opportunity to even their series on Sunday.

Montreal was at home against the Washington Capitals and a strong third period powered the Habs to their 6-3 win.

Six different players scored for the Habs, including Christian Dvorak, Juraj Slafkovský and Alex Newhook, who all scored in the final frame. The Canadiens are back in action at 3:30 pm on Sunday.

The Oilers also enjoyed skating on their home ice as they took an early 2-0 lead against the Los Angeles Kings on Friday.

The lead was short-lived as the Kings got on the scoreboard before the end of the first period and then took a 3-2 lead late in the second frame.

Both teams continued to go back and forth and the Kings managed a 4-3 lead going into the third period.

With the clock winding down, Evander Kane tied the game with less than seven minutes to play.

The Oilers had momentum and took the lead 10 seconds later. Connor McDavid and Connor Brown then added insurance goals to take the 7-4 win. Edmonton is back in action at 6:30 pm on Sunday.

Two Canadian teams are set to skate on Saturday as the Toronto Maple Leafs look to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

The Leafs are up 3-0 in their series against the Ottawa Senators and puck drop is set for 4 pm.
