The Detroit Red Wings rookie games against the Dallas Stars offered a mixed message about the state of Detroit’s prospects closest to the NHL.
On one hand, the team managed 11 goals in the two games, a noteworthy statistic for an organization that struggled to score goals last season. On the other hand, the Detroit group, which included key prospects Amadeus Lombardi, Nate Danielson, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, Axel Sandin Pellikka, Emmitt Finnie and Shai Buium, gave up three unanswered goals in the third period to fall 6-5 in Game 6. Detroit won the first game 6-2.
GM Steve Yzerman is looking for players to come to Detroit and help create a winning culture. We didn’t see those players in that third period.
Over the two games, Amadeus Lombardi put up a goal and four assists. Brandsegg-Nygard totaled four points, while defenseman Shai Buium scored in each game. Nate Danielson scored in Game 2, and Sandin Pellikka had two points.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It
What should we make of the performances by Detroit’s undrafted free agents playing in the two-game rookie series against the Dallas Stars.
Michael Brandsegg-Nygard is showing he deserves a look to play with the Red Wings this season.
Emmitt Finnie is on track to be one of the Grand Rapids Griffins’ top performers in 2025-26
Red Wings Extra
There’s been nothing connecting former NHL goalie Jack Campbell, 33, to a team for next season. He played for the Grand Rapids Griffins’ last season. Hunter Johannes, signed by Detroit a year ago, has also not landed anywhere.
