Dillon Dube was recently linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs by Darren Dreger, and now the team have been called out for potentially considering the idea.

Recently, the five players involved in the Team Canada trial were officially cleared to return to the NHL, and unsurprisingly, Carter Hart is the one drawing most interest from NHL teams ahead of a potential return.

However, former Calgary Flame Dillon Dube was brought up as a potential option by Darren Dreger, who linked him to the Toronto Maple Leafs as a potential option to fill a vacant top-six role with the team.

Analysts reject the idea of Dillon Dube as a top-six options

However, most hockey fans immediately rejected the idea on social media, given that Dube struggled to produce before all of the extra baggage that now potentially comes with signing him.

Over his NHL career, Dube has tallied just 57 goals in 325 games played, and at 27-years of age with almost two years out of the NHL, it’s easy to see why fans were questioning why Toronto would even consider the move.

This led to Jesse Courville-Lynch of The Hockey Writers penning a piece that rejected the idea completely, especially given the additions of Matias Macceli, Nicolas Roy and Dakota Joshua this off-season, all of whom can do exactly what Dube does.

Ultimately, Brad Treliving does have the connection to Dube as the GM that drafted him back in Calgary, and while he may be tempted to bring in the former second-round pick, given the amount of forwards this team have heading into training camp, it’s a move that makes 0 sense for the team.
