As the New York Rangers had a very troubling season throughout the 2024-25 season, which resulted in them landed the 12th overall pick of the 2025 NHL Draft, something they might have to give up.

Many fans expected the New York Rangers to be a Stanley Cup contender this season as they just wont the Presidents Trophy last season. However, that clearly was not the case as the Rangers didn’t even make this playoffs and are now left wit tough decision to make this summer.

And now, the New York Rangers are left to make another difficult decision to make involving their Metropolitan Division rivals this offseason.

After the New York Rangers sent a first-round pick to the Vancouver Canucks in the J.T. Miller trade, that pick was re-routed to Pittsburgh in exchange for Marcus Petterson and Drew O’Connor, and now the Rangers must figure out if they want give the Penguins their 2025 or 2026 first-round draft pick.in addition, the New York Rangers bumped down from 11th to 12th.

Their pick is top-13 protected, so the results do not affect the deferral status for this year’s draft.

The Rangers have up until 48 hours before the draft to let Kyle Dubas know if they want the 2025 or 2026 pick

Despite the Rangers bring in younger guys such as Brennan Othmann and Gabe Perreault late in the 2024-25 season, the team still needs to get younger. So it would make sense for them to hold onto this pick, especially if they believe they will have better season resulting in the 2026 pick to be later in the draft.
