Brad Marchand Confirms Why He Left Boston

Former Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand won the Stanley Cup with the divisional foe Panthers, and now he’s confirming why he chose to re-sign in Florida rather than return to Boston.
Boston Bruins fans were stunned when captain Brad Marchand was traded to the divisional foe Florida Panthers at the Trade Deadline last season after failing to agree on a new contract extension.
Not only did Marchand help the Panthers repeat as Stanley Cup champions, but he then signed a 6 year contract extension to remain in Florida, officially ending any hope of Bruins fans that he’d return to Boston over the summer
The Panthers also surprised fans everywhere by not only re-signing Marchand but also signing Sam Bennett and Aaron Ekblad to new multi-year extensions of their own.Marchand recently said that given the tax-friendly status in the state of Florida, it enabled the Panthers to re-sign all 3 UFAs.Call it a spade of spade, if we were not in a non-tax state, it wouldn’t have worked out probably for two guys (him, Bennett, Ekblad). Two guys probably would have been leaving in that situation. So it’s a benefit that this team has, we were able to utilize and make work.

Brad Marchand is now under contract through age 42
Even though Marchand was rumoured to be thinking about a potential return to Boston over the summer, he re-signed in Florida with a 6 year contract and an AAV (average annual value) of $5.25 million.
He’s now under contract through age 42, and he said that he has no intention of hanging up the skates any time soon.
Marchand and the Panthers now are set to begin their 2nd straight Stanley Cup defense.
