The Toronto Maple Leafs faced a challenging offseason. Losing winger Mitch Marner left a significant gap in the team’s offense, but the franchise has been active in adding new names to the roster to fill the void.
While the recent additions look promising, the Leafs still face a long season ahead when the NHL schedule begins in October. In other Toronto hockey news, a former WWE superstar recently made headlines by publicly backing his favorite team.
‘Rated-R Superstar,’ Edge, Continues To Place His Faith in the Maple Leafs
Former WWE superstar and Hall of Famer Edge has always worn his hockey fandom on his sleeve. The Orangeville native, now wrestling as Adam Copeland in AEW, remains a passionate Maple Leafs supporter. In a recent interview, he shared that he still roots for his childhood team despite their ups and downs.
Copeland appeared on the latest episode of Sirius XM’s “NHL Morning Skate,” joining hosts Scott Laughlin and Gord Stellick to give his predictions for the 2025-26 season. Copeland was cautiously optimistic when asked about his gut feeling for the Maple Leafs this season.
“Oh man, I’m always going to say the Leafs; I have to. But it just seems the road to do it is so difficult, which is why it’s so impressive that Florida has you and then Tampa before them.”

But he also acknowledged how tough it will be for the Leafs to get past the Florida Panthers. “It’s hard to bet against Florida right now. But I think eventually people are going to figure it out or play them their way more than they do,” Copeland told Laughlin and Stellick.
The “Rated-R Superstar” mused about who might be the first to get one over on the Panthers and who would risk throwing elbows at the goalie. “Whoever that is, you know, who’s gonna sneak in the elbows on the goalie and take them out, you know, who’s gonna do that better?” Copeland added.
Copeland said he remains hopeful about the Leafs’ chances this season as training camp opens and expects it to be an interesting year. He also praised Toronto’s goaltending duo, adding, “I feel with this year coming in, we’ve got a goaltending tandem here, and they’re easily within the best in the league.”

Copeland noted that it hadn’t been that way for a long time. Even last season, he wasn’t sure what Anthony Stolarz would bring to the table. But after watching the goalie’s performance, he’s now convinced Stolarz is exactly what Toronto needed: a reliable netminder who will stand tall in the crease.
With just three weeks left until the regular season, the Maple Leafs hope to make a deep playoff run this year. They’ll have celebrity supporters like Copeland cheering them on from the sidelines.
