Mason McTavish‘s future in Edmonton is up in the air, and now at the start of training camp, he’s away from the team as his contract stalemate continues. That, along with a core of Leo Carlsson, Troy Terry and Jackson Lacombe among others make them one of the most intriguing teams in the National Hockey League, but heading into camp, there’s one contract stalemate hanging above the team.

Mason McTavish skates without the Ducks to begin camp

In a recent report from Sportsnet, it has been revealed that while the Ducks have begun training camp, standout centre Mason McTavish is not with the team, but instead skating with the Ottawa 67’s of the OHL as he still does not have a new contract with the organization.Dating back to early this summer, there’s been expectations that McTavish could request a trade from Anaheim, and with no new deal in place for the talented 22-year old, all options are still clearly on the table.

Last season, the former No. 3 pick had a career year, posting 22 goals and 52 points in 76 games played, but despite this, it appears as though the Ducks don’t want to pay him long-term.

Ultimately, this is all going to come to a head at some point before the regular season, and whether or not that’s a trade, an offer sheet or a new deal, we are soon going to have our resolution after the way things have begun at training camp.
