The new alternate sweaters of the Edmonton Oilers are being torn apart by both fans and analysts shortly after they were released on Saturday afternoon.

The Edmonton Oilers have rolled out new 3rd sweaters that they’ll be wearing on select dates this year. The tan jerseys feature “Oilers” written on the crest with the “s” written as an oil drop. A patch of an oil drop is also sewn on the back hem.

A shoulder patch with “Oil Country” and “EDM 1979” written around an oil tower honors Edmonton’s oil industry.

“Let’s go Oilers” is written on the jersey’s collar.

The Oilers also announced they’ll be wearing the new look at 7 dates this year, beginning with hosting the Utah Mammoth on October 28 at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

These Controversial Sweaters Join Long Line of Third Jerseys

It’s not the first time that the Oilers have delved into creating an alternate look for themselves.

A design that fans still look back fondly upon is the “Oil Drip”, a design from Todd McFarlane that was introduced in 2001.

Edmonton also joined the trend of the “reverse retro” look to mixed reaction.
