It’s Flyers game day! For the first time since April, the Philadelphia Flyers will be facing off against another NHL team, with NHL players playing.
The Flyers will travel to Long Island to take on the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. EST. If you’re interested in watching the game, it will be streamed on the Flyers website. It will also be aired on the radio by 97.5 The Fanatic.
It is the Flyers’ first preseason game of the year, so it’s hard to tell exactly who will play with whom. Camp pairs have seemingly been broken up for Sunday’s game. Here is who will be on Long Island.
The #Flyers are bringing 13 forwards and 6 defensemen, and 2 goalies to Long Island.

So, let’s take a swing at predicting the lines and pairs for tonight.
Flyers (predicted) Lines and Pairs vs. Islanders
Forwards
Nikita Grebenkin – Trevor Zegras – Matvei Michkov
Alexis Gendron – Noah Cates – Denver Barkey
Devin Kaplan – Jack Nesbitt – Garnet Hathaway
Lane Pederson – Rodirgo Abols – Samu Tuomaala
Sawyer Boulton(extra forward)
Defensemen
Egor Zamula – Jamie Drysdale
Emil Andrae – Spencer Gill
Adam Ginning – Noah Juulsen
Goalies
Aleksei Kolosov
Carson Bjarnason
Again, this is merely a prediction. With both groups A and B being split from training camp, a lot of guys will be playing with new linemates. Based on who has been playing with whom during camp, this is my best crack at what the lines will be.
Things to Watch
Keep an eye on Trevor Zegras during Sunday’s preseason game. It will be the first time he takes the ice in a Flyers sweater against another team. He has looked good during camp, but Sunday will provide the first look at Zegras down the middle.
I will also be keeping a close eye on Nikita Grebenkin. Grebenkin, in my eyes, is leading the roster battle, so now is the time when he will show why he deserves a roster spot. I assume that he will remain with Matvei Michkov, and with Zegras being the most skilled center on today’s roster, it only makes sense for the three of them to play together. That could be a very entertaining line.
Alexis Gendron is another player to watch. The 21-year-old former 7th-round pick has been turning heads during training camp. He has scored in each of the Flyers’ last three “games”, including both rookie series games and Saturday’s scrimmage. He may have started camp far from the bubble, but he is pushing himself closer and closer. If anything, his stock has risen dramatically. I’ll be watching closely to see if he continues this incredible run.
Lastly, I am not going to be overly concerned if this is a high-scoring game. The Flyers are sending their AHL tandem to Long Island, with a blueline group that is not all known for their defensive abilities, to say the least. Jamie Drysdale and Emil Andrae are offensive defensemen, and Noah Juulsen and Adam Ginning have not looked great to start camp. This will be a good chance to see if Egor Zamula can step up, but also see if Spencer Gill can shine.
Again, the puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. EST on Long Island. The game will be streamed on the Flyers website and aired on 97.5 The Fanatic.
