The NHL left Arizona for the first time in decades last season, but now, the Doan Family are pushing the league to return to Arizona.

The Arizona Coyotes became a staple in the NHL across the past two decades, but last season, they were officially relocated to Salt Lake City to now become known as the Utah Mammoth.

However, the Mammoth did not acquire the history of the team, just their current setup, meaning that a return to Arizona is always going to be a genuine possibility.

Andrea Doan pushes for the NHL to return to Arizona

One of the most iconic players in Coyotes history is former captain Shane Doan, who played all but one of his NHL seasons with the Phoenix and then Arizona Coyotes, becoming arguably the franchise’s G.O.A.T. in that time.

Now, his wife Andrea has addressed the possibility of a team returning to the desert, as she is spearheading a group that is set to bring hockey back to Arizona, stating she’ll wait until she is 80 to make it happen if that’s what it takes.

“I think we have an obligation to the city and an obligation, honestly, to the NHL, to make this happen. We have been given all these opportunities because of hockey and so you want to help by giving back and doing whatever you can. It’s just not going to feel complete until the team is back here. And I don’t care if I have to wait until I’m like 80 years old. We’re going to work hard on this and it’s gonna be back.”

Only time will tell if the NHL can return to Arizona, but with a different ownership group than the last time, it’s definitely a possibility, and with Gary Bettman always loving the team in Arizona, never say never.
