It was good news, bad news from Ottawa Senators head coach Travis Green on Tuesday.

Green updated the status of defenceman Tyler Kleven, who left Sunday’s preseason game with injury, stating he should be back in the coming days, but then spoke on the status of forward Drake Batherson, who left Tuesday’s practice early.

Green said he had no official update on Batherson.

“Not sure, pulled something,” was all he said on the what was ailing the 27-year-old winger.

Batherson is coming off his third-straight 20-goal campaign, having posted 26 goals and a career-high 68 points in 82 games last season. He added one goal and one assist in six playoff games.

A fourth-round pick of the Senators in 2017, Batherson has 116 goals and 293 points in 391 career games. He is signed through the 2026-27 season at a cap hit of $4.975 million.

Kleven left Sunday’s pre-season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs with an apparent injury and did not return.

Kleven took a hard spill into the end boards and left the Sens’ bench shortly after. Green said postgame that pulling him was “precautionary.”

The 23-year-old had two hits and one shot on goal in 13:20 of ice time during Ottawa’s 4-3 loss.

A native of Fargo, N.D., Kleven had four goals and six assists for 10 points in 79 games last season for the Sens.

Ottawa will continue their pre-season schedule Tuesday night in Toronto.
