Montreal Canadiens player Patrik Laine is kicking off the final season of a four-year contract. The future of the Finnish hockey player as the Habs’ right winger is still up in the air, but if the decision were up to his wife, Jordan Leigh Laine, the couple would happily stay in Montreal.
“I love Montreal,” Leigh Laine told Yahoo Canada. “I very much and very publicly hope we stay here for a very long time.”
Leigh Laine, who runs the mental health initiative From Us to You alongside her husband, described Montreal as a “big city with small town people.”
“Everybody is kind and welcoming,” she said. “Canadians have a stereotype of being very friendly, very welcoming, and I’ve found that to be very true. The people are amazing.”
Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Leigh Laine has immersed herself in Montreal life — and the city’s enthusiastic hockey culture — since the Habs acquired Patrik in 2024. The couple married in a “timeless” ceremony in Palm Beach, Fla, in June 2025.
Despite its famously wretched winters, Montreal has been a welcome home for the Laines.
Montreal has a “French charm,” Leigh Laine said over a video call. “I really enjoy [it].”
As for the French language, the mental health advocate admitted she still has room for improvement. “Me and Duolingo are very good friends,” Leigh Laine joked. “If we get a long-term contract here, I promise I will learn French. But my French right now, as it exists, is not anything to brag about.”
