This in from the National Hockey League’s Utah Mammoth, news that they have placed on waivers veteran goalie Connor Ingram.
Ingram, 28, had two solid NHL seasons before struggling last season with injuries and personal trauma. As NHL.com recently reported: “The 28-year-old goalie played 22 games for Utah last season before entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program on March 9… Ingram won the Masterton Trophy, which recognizes the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey, for the 2023-24 season. He also entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program in 2021 because of depression and what had been an undiagnosed obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).”
Ingram was cleared to play on Aug. 20. He explained his decision to go into the program on March 9.

In 2022-23 Ingram had a .907 save percentage in 27 games, then he had a .907 save percentage again in 2023-24 before dropping down to .882 in 22 games last year for Utah.
Despite Ingram’s drop-off season and personal issues, Oilers fans were keen to see Edmonton claim him and give him a second chance.

For me, this is close to a no-brainer for the Oilers. I wouldn’t have even let him get to waivers without offering a trade. You don’t get guys with starter upside for free everyday.

Oilers are 24th on the priority list. The likelyhood Ingram falls to them if they put in a claim is low… but if the Oilers don’t even attempt a claim, then we know they aren’t serious about winning anything this season.
