Pittsburgh Penguins prospects, Quinn Beauchesne
The Pittsburgh Penguins have only jettisoned two of 69 players from the 2025 training camp. Thus far, a pair of mid-round picks have been returned to juniors.
Thursday, the Penguins returned fifth-round pick Quinn Beauchesne to the Guelph Storm of the OHL. Beauchesne has been one of the largest surprises of the Penguins’ draft class and training camp.
Beauchesne, 18, was the Penguins’ fifth-round pick (148th overall) and had a standout Prospects Challenge in Buffalo earlier this month. Beauchesne stood up for teammates in each of the first two games, earning fighting majors.
The 6-foot-tall, 185-pound right-handed defenseman is an all-around D-man, but Beauchesne also showed a bit of offense and a physical streak. Last season, he had 24 points (6-18-24) in 49 games.
He did not get to play in either of the two Penguins preseason games, but will undoubtedly make PHN’s Top 25 Penguins Prospects list next summer.
The Penguins’ first cut was Travis Hayes, who was returned to the Soo Greyhounds on Tuesday. Hayes, a center, was the Penguins’ fourth-round pick (105th overall pick). He’s already played two games with the Soo and scored a goal.
