San Jose Sharks top center Macklin Celebrini is still not a full participant in practice after a bout with an illness.

He returned to the main group, albeit in a somewhat limited capacity, on September 23. The Sharks’ No. 1 center hasn’t taken much physical contact during many of the practices.

During Sunday’s practice, Celebrini was spotted pulling skill coach Mike Ricci around while the entire team did a drill on the other side of the ice.

“We’ve got a pretty good plan on how we want to approach this,” Ryan Warsofsky said on Sept. 24. “Each day he does a little bit more, and then we’ll let him go.”

Both Celebrini and Warsofsky have been mum about the extent of Celebrini’s illness. While the Sharks, Celebrini, or Warsofsky haven’t confirmed that he’s dealing with anything more than an illness, it is strange to see Celebrini not participating fully.

“We have a plan in place. We’re going to stick to it. He had that illness earlier in camp. I’m going to stick to it and not get into too much detail,” Warsofsky said on Sunday.

Celebrini told reporters that he wants to get into at least one preseason game for the Sharks before the regular season, but he’s not sure which one.

There is no way to know if there is more to Celebrini’s illness or if there is another potential ailment. At the end of the day, the fact that Celebrini can skate every day with some contact proves that it’s not a serious injury/illness.
