The Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly placed three players on waivers following practice on Saturday as the team’s roster cuts continue ahead of the season opener.
As the fierce training camp battled continue across the NHL, teams are beginning to trim rosters ahead of the season opener in less than two weeks time.
The Maple Leafs have already announced several roster cuts, and it would appear as though another wave of cuts is on the way with the team placing Travis Boyd, Bo Groulx and Vinni Lettieri on waivers on Saturday.
All three players were expected to be members of the Toronto Marlies at the very beginning, though Boyd did express openly that he believes he is still an NHL caliber player and could potentially make the Leafs out of training camp.
The Leafs are set to take on the Montreal Canadiens tonight, but all 3 of Boyd, Lettieri and Groulx practiced with the non-playing group.
As far as Boyd, Lettieri and Groulx are concerned, I’m not certain that any of them are worthy of a waivers claim, at least not this early. That said, teams who are battling the injury bug may take a flier on one, though we won’t find out until Sunday afternoon if that’s the case.
