🚨 TRADE ALERT 🚨

The #Oilers have acquired Connor Ingram from the Utah Mammoth in exchange for future considerations. The goaltender will report to the Condors.

Kurt Leavins: The Oilers have just traded for goalie Connor Ingram.

There was no shortage of reaction online. Here are some of the highlights:

Sportsnet columnist Mark Spector🇨🇦🇺🇦 @SportsnetSpec
To be clear, the “futures” going to Utah in the Ingram deal = nothing. Zero return, as Utah does Ingram a favour and restarts his carer with a new org. With Utah eating the $800,000, Oilers bury the entire $1.15 M salary in the minors – no cap hit whatsoever. A free player…
Connor Ingram is heading straight to Bakersfield. He did not attend a camp this fall, played just 22 games last season, and went through NHL/NHLPA rehab program. He is a ways from his next NHL start.

Athletic hockey writer Allan “Lowetide” Mitchell @Lowetide
Seeing lots of takes on Connor Ingram, but let’s give credit here for a solid pickup for what we assume is low cost. Bakersfield got better, the Oilers have a strong No. 3 and maybe Ingram turns out to be something very good. A solid move by Stan Bowman.

TSN’s Ryan Rishaug @TSNRyanRishaug
Bowman says work continues on a Knoblauch extension and doesn’t foresee it being an issue. Says nothing new on McDavid front, they’re content being patient and talk almost daily with his agent Judd Moldaver. No talks yet with Skinner camp, or Pickard and says new goalie addition is about depth and having another good option in the organization.

Hockey fan Tim Mushey @TimM799611
Connor Ingram has 39 NHL wins so please keep that in mind as you evaluate this trade… People who are excited about G Connor Ingram are probably the same people who were excited about Arvi or Jeff Skinner. Just because you know somebody’s name doesn’t mean they are a good fit. Ingram is decent but not an upgrade. Thank you 🤣

Cult of Hockey writer David Staples @dstaples
Stan Bowman would have failed in his job if he didn’t bring in one of Carter Hart or Connor Ingram to challenge Stuart Skinner. Good thing Bowman didn’t fail… Glad to see Oilers not only got Ingram, they got him with Utah eating large portion of contract. Ingram has been good goalie 2 out of last 3 years.
Better bet than vet Fleury. Yes, Ingram has had mental health issues. But folks do bounce back.

Edmonton Oilerlytics @EdmOilerlytics
Connor Ingram and Kris Knoblauch both grew up in Imperial Saskatchewan which only has a population of 372 for those that are wondering. With that population it would have made it impossible for these 2 not to have known each other for a very long time.

A goalie I wanted is coming here? What world am I living in?… On a weaker team than Edmonton, Connor Ingram posted a similar SV% in his time in Utah (22-23 to 24-25) to that of Stu Skinner (23-24 to 24-25).
Stuart Skinner
Starts against playoff teams: 61 (57%)
Starts against non-playoff teams: 46 (43%)
Record against playoff teams as starter: 28-25-6 .525
Record against non-playoff teams as starter: 34-9-3 .772
SV% against playoff teams: .891
SV% against non-playoff teams: .915

Connor Ingram
Starts against playoff teams: 50 (52%)
Starts against non-playoff teams: 46 (48%)
Record against playoff teams as starter: 15-26-7 .385
Record against non-playoff teams as starter: 23-15-7 .589
SV% against playoff teams: .891
SV% against non-playoff teams: .913

The Oilers finally did it! They added a goalie. Trading for Connor Ingram is a solid move, especially with salary retention down to $1.15M. He may not represent a massive upgrade over Skinner, but he helps their depth, and if he returns to form, he’s a sizable upgrade over Pickard in the 1B spot.

NHL writer for Sportsnet Michael Amato @amato_mike
Dare I say if all the stars align and if Connor Ingram is at his best, he has more upside than Skinner and Pickard. But a significant stint in the AHL to find his game again is warranted. Still a good low-risk, high-reward bet for the Oilers.

Another average goaltender going to Edmonton, lol. This will really get McDavid to stay 😂

Oilers fan and former Covered in Oil blogger Mike Winters @mike_wintrs
This is a really good deal for the Oilers. Connor McDavid, please note: The team is no longer run by Ken Holland

Oilers fan Den Polland @oilersgm2
Very tidy work her from the Edmonton Oilers. For those complaining Oil didn’t claim him… this is why. This is the perfect situation. 0 risk and high reward. I have REALLY liked Bowman’s body of work

Oilers fan Waddsy 🇨🇦 @waddsy19
This likely moves Picks to Bako – unless they plan to carry 3 tenders. I can’t see that if they want to bank cap space. Zero chance they give up on Skinny – he’s too young and has shown flashes he can be competitive. Things just got interesting between the pipes.

Oilers fan Trent Wilhauk @TheMrWilhauk
Oiler fans should realize sooner than later that the Oilers finally have a GM that WORKS his ass off to trying to improve this team. Another great piece of work by Stan Bowman!!

Oilers analyst Golden Era Hockey @NHLGoldenEra
– Salary retained ✅
– Already cleared waivers ✅
– Gave up no assets ✅
Oilers eliminated all the risk with this acquisition at zero cost. Smart move by Bowman

Remember when they said they believed in their goalies 😂😂😂

Hockey writer Mike Bartner @MikeBartner
Wow what a great buy low move by the Oilers. Ingram could easily be the starter by Thanksgiving lol.

NHL cap analyst Jean-Francois C. @JeanFrancoisCBA
Ingram’s cap hit is 1.15M. His cap hit is 0$ while he is in the AHL. This is also means that Edmonton will not have a cap penalty on their playoffs cap. This type of salary retention will be very important for playoffs team if the player could end up in the AHL.

Oilers fan RG3 @rascalgas
That’s a pretty tidy trade on the Oilers part. If Ingram doesn’t pan out, probably won’t be giving up much. If he does succeed, we won’t care what we give up.

So whose job is more at stake, Stuart Skinner or Cal Pickard?

Kraken fan Curtis Allen @curtis93969
For half a heartbeat all I saw was “Connor” “traded” and “Edmonton”

Edmonton hockey commentator Dustin Nielson @nielsonTSN1260
Lots of people will be stoked about this. It’s a different look in net. Some numbers would say it’s an upgrade. I guess we’ll find out! Looks like he’ll start in Bako.

NHL writer for CBS sports Austin Nivison @AustinNivison
A very worthwhile dice roll by the Oilers

Hockey fan Tyler L’Heureux @TyLHappy
More malpractice from the Oilers

Oilers fan Murdoch Davis @murdochdavis
So Oilers get goalie prospect at 28 the right way. Had they used waivers, had to keep in #NHL or waive him again. Now can play in the A, see if he’s .907 save % guy from 22-24 or guy with Stu Skinnier-like .892 last year, and whether “player assistance” needs are behind.

More to come…
