The Avalanche made five more roster cuts on Wednesday. Along with placing Wyatt Aamodt and Danil Gushchin on waivers, the team also sent down Maros Jedlicka and Mark Senden to the AHL’s Colorado Eagles.

They also returned goalie Mathis Langevin to his junior team in the QMJHL.

Following these reassignments, the team’s roster now consists of 16 forwards, 10 defensemen, and three goalies. This includes the injured Samuel Girard, Logan O’Connor, and Mackenzie Blackwood.

In total, the Avs likely need to cut five more players.

The three remaining goalies will likely all be part of the team’s initial 23-man roster, given that Blackwood is unlikely to be ready for opening night. I don’t imagine they’ll place him on IR right away, since they don’t necessarily need his roster spot immediately.

On defense, I can see them starting with seven and sending down Jack Ahcan and Ronnie Attard. They’ll also place Jacob MacDonald on IR or LTIR to bring them down to seven.

If these scenarios play out, they’ll have room for 13 forwards. I would suspect that Zakhar Bardakov is the 4C and Gavin Brindley is the only other non-experienced veteran to make the team. In this case, that would mean that the final cut would be Matt Stienburg and Nikita Prishchepov, who is currently injured. The last roster move would be placing Logan O’Connor on IR.

In all, that means the final cuts, at least to me, are going to be Attard, Ahcan, Stienburg, Prishchepov, and MacDonald would be placed on LTIR. That would bring the team down to 23.
