Jonathan Huberdeau is out day-to-day.
The Calgary Flames winger left Wednesday night’s walloping at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks after crashing into goaltender Kevin Lankinen and did not return. He wasn’t on the ice for the team’s high-intensity Thursday morning practice at the Saddledome, either.
“He’s going to be evaluated here this morning,” said Flames GM Craig Conroy. “Obviously, you guys saw it, we’re just going to wait to see what the doctors say. Hopefully, everything’s good. I talked to him this morning, he was in good spirits.”
With the regular season a little over a week away, Huberdeau’s health has potential to be a big story. He is, after all, a player who finished second in points on a Flames team that struggled to produce offence last season. Huberdeau, 32, scored 28 goals and added 34 assists. Missing him for any length of time would be a blow.
The Flames had their highest-paid player skating on a line with Morgan Frost and Matt Coronato this week and while nobody was especially good against the Canucks on Wednesday, that line had the potential to create badly needed offence.
Martin Pospisil, who also left Wednesday’s game early after taking a stick to the face, was out with his teammates at Thursday’s practice.
