Jackson Lacombe has shown potential, and now he’s set to sign a record breaking deal with the Ducks, becoming the highest paid player in franchise history.

Back in the 2019 NHL Draft, the Anaheim Ducks used a second-round pick on Minnesota native Jackson Lacombe, and at the time, many people didn’t think much about the selection.

However, since arriving in the NHL, the 24-year old has grown leaps and bounds, putting together a career year of 14 goals and 43 points in 75 games played a season ago, solidifying himself as one of the top young names in the NHL.

Lacombe Signs Franchise-Record $72 Million Contract in Anaheim

Now, the organization have made history, signing the talented young blue liner to a deal worth $9 million per season over eight years, a move that comes as a major shock to fans.

While it’s not the highest contract in Ducks history per AAV, in total dollars, this move takes him over the likes of Getzlaf, Kariya and Perry, all of whom are franchise icons and were given big deals by the team.

With fantastic size at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Lacombe plays a physical style while also bringing plenty of offensive flair, and with the team locking in McTavish, Carlsson and Terry among others for their future, this is a team that can’t be taken lightly in 2025/26.

Ultimately, there will be question marks over signing Lacombe to such a long deal after just two full seasons in the NHL, but right now, teams need to commit to their young players, and the Ducks have done just that as they look to get back into Stanley Cup Playoffs contention.
