BOSTON — The Bruins made a handful of roster moves on Friday as the next week’s opener looms and with it the deadline to get down to 23 players.
The Bruins placed Patrick Brown, Michael Callahan, Georgii Merkulov, Victor Soderstrom and Riley Tufte on waivers in hopes of sending them to the AHL. If they go unclaimed, they’ll join the Providence Bruins on Saturday.
Frederic Brunet, Riley Duran, Brett Harrison and Fabian Lysell, who don’t require waivers, were sent directly to the P-Bruins.
The leaves the roster bubble likely looking like this:
Locks:
Forwards: David Pastrnak, Elias Lindholm, Morgan Geekie, Casey, Mittelstadt, Pavel Zacha, Viktor Arvidsson, Tanner Jeannot, Mikey Eyssimont, Sean Kuraly, Mark Kastelic
Defense:
Mason Lohrei, Charlie McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm, Andrew Peeke, Nikita Zadorov, Henri JokiharjuGoalies:Jeremy Swayman, Joonas Korpisalo
Bubble:Fraser Minten, who Marco Sturm spoke glowingly of, is a good bet for one of the reaining four spots, three of which will almost certainly be forwards. After that Johnny Beecher, Matt Poitras, Matěj Blümel, Alex Steeves, Jeffrey Viel and Marat Khusnutdinov remain in the mix for the forward spots.Steeves and Viel were not at Bruins practice on Friday.Poitras is waiver-exempt and so is Minten. The others would have to clear to go to Providence.
Jordan Harris looks like the leader for the seventh defenseman, but Jonathan Aspirot looms possible. Both are waiver-eligible.Michael DiPietro, who’d need waivers, could get claimed or the Bruins could look to trade him. He was not at practice at Warrior on Friday either.
