Defenseman Sean Behrens didn’t play a shift in either the second or third period of Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the Dallas Stars. The Avalanche lost the preseason finale 3-2, but Behrens’ status remains unknown.

Behrens was one of eight call-ups the Avs made ahead of the game to allow several of their top player an opportunity to rest. The 22-year-old had a solid showing in preseason before he was initially sent to the AHL.

It would be a worst-case scenario for Behrens’ development if he’s out for any extended period. The DU alumnus missed the entire 2024-25 season after suffering an injury in training camp. He only dressed in one professional game for the Eagles more than a year and a half ago after signing his entry-level deal out of college. This was his opportunity to finally get his pro career started and his development back on track.

Without Behrens available for two periods, Sam Malinski played 31:03 against the Stars. Jack Ahcan played 22:59, and Samuel Girard, in his preseason debut, saw 22:49 of ice time.
