Four of those players placed on waivers included three defencemen and a forward from the Maple Leafs.
Acquired from San Jose in the Ryan Reaves trade, Thrun, a 6’2, 210-pound, puck-moving blueliner, was seen as a possible dark horse to make the Leafs given the need to improve their mobility on the blueline.
Pezzetta, Mermis and Benning are likely to clear, but the Leafs will be holding there breath, hoping that they are able to sneak Thrun through as well and avoid losing him for nothing.
While the Leafs did place the aforementioned players on waivers, many were surprised that Calle Jarnkrok was not included on that list, given the amount of speculation around his future with in Toronto.
