Pavol Regenda had a strong showing at San Jose Sharks training camp, but the winger has been placed on waivers.
Finalized NHL rosters are due by 2 p.m. PT on Monday, meaning many teams are using waivers to cut players from their roster. The Sharks only placed Regenda on waivers today, which is significant.
A player who is waiver-eligible would need to be placed on NHL waivers today in order to be sent down by tomorrow’s deadline.
Regenda drew high praise from Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky, but it appears he didn’t do enough to earn an opening-night roster spot.

“He surprised me. I didn’t know a lot, [but I’ve] watched him a little bit with the Barracuda. He’s had a good camp,” Warsofsky said on Oct. 1. “You talk about a guy, got eyes on him, and those eyes get a little bit bigger when you when you watch him. He’s got a certain type of identity that we don’t probably have a ton of, as far as plays in the inside, will sit in front of the net. Physical [and can] kind of play up and down your lineup.”
Regenda teamed up with Ethan Cardwell against the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday, as the duo each had four points. Regenda had four assists, while Cardwell had a hat trick and an assist.
Given his strong camp and preseason play, the Sharks are likely hoping Regenda goes unclaimed. If he passes through waivers, he will report to the San Jose Barracuda, staying in the Sharks organization.
Carl Grundstrom, who the Sharks just traded to the Philadelphia Flyers, was also placed on waivers by his new team.
