Kahkonen was placed on waivers by the Canadiens for the purpose of assignment to AHL Laval, the team announced Sunday.
Kahkonen played only one NHL game in 2024-25, the fewest NHL games he’s logged in a season since making his NHL debut in the 2019-20 season. Kahkonen also got into 36 outings in the AHL last year between his stints with Colorado, Charlotte and Manitoba. Assuming he clears waivers, 29-year-old might end up back in the NHL if Sam Montembeault or Jakub Dobes sustain an injury at any point during the season.
