Alanna Filler scored the game-winner with 17 seconds left as Hazleton Area edged Wilkes-Barres Area, 3-2, in Wyoming Valley Conference field hockey, Monday evening, at Harman-Geist Stadium.

Bella Boyle and Lauren Lamanna also scored for the Lady Cougars. Kaytie Marx and Grace Simko had the Wolfpack goals.

Despite the win, the Lady Cougars remained in fourth place in the District 2 Class 3A points standings; while the Wolfpack stayed in first. Honesdale was second and Wyoming Valley West in third after Monday’s action. All four teams have seven losses with only a few weeks left in the regular season.

The Blue Raiders split their goals evenly with five in the first half and five in the second in their Schuylkill League victory.

Matt Giuliano booted in two goals and Lusuin Lemus, Chase Behr and Zack Hartzell each connected for first-half goals. Jakin Tamagini moved out of his usual spot in goal to score twice in the second half. Lemus, John Kovatch and Luis Tejada Garcia also netted goals.

Damien Gall had 13 saves for the Colts.

Berwick 2, MMI Prep 1

In Foster Twp., the Bulldogs broke a scoreless stalemate with two second-half goals and held on for the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 win.

Anthony Vasquez scored first and teammate Logan Robinson headed the ball into the net a few minutes later to account for Berwick’s two goals. The Preppers’ lone goal came Hasan Arain’s arcing shot off a Josef Dovicak pass beat the Bulldogs; keeper.

MMI’s Ben Drobnock stopped 11 shots. Teammates Xavier Reymunde and Haden Stash also played well.

H.S. Girls’ Soccer
Pottsville 3, Tamaqua 0

Megan Goodman, Isabella Wright and Emily Steidle each scored a goal to lead the visiting Lady Tide to the Schuylkill League Division I win.

Tamaqua’s Ceanna Gormley turned away 33 shots in defeat. Winning goalkeeper Julie Stock made 11 saves.

H.S. Girls’ Volleyball
Nanticoke Area 3, Hazleton Area 1

Amiah Ceruti had 34 assists, eight kills and four blocks to lead Nanticoke Area to the win, 25-14, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19.

Haley Verazin had 13 kills, while Callie Welch had nine kills and eight service points.

Maddie Spencer had seven kills for Nanticoke Area with Alyvia Schneider adding 10 digs and 12 service points. Amelia Schneider had 11 service points and four aces.

Statistics for Hazleton Area players were not provided.

Nativity 3, Weatherly 0

Nativity jumped ahead with a 25-14 win in the opening game, before completing its sweep with 25-10 and 25-11 wins in the second and third games, respectively.

Abby Weston had four service points with one ace, one block and 11 assists for the Lady Wreckers. Kendra Moyer contributed three service points, one kill and six digs; and Kelly Reiner had one ace, one kill, two blocks and six digs.

Delilah Boyle scored Jacelyn Pena had an assist for the Lady Cougars.

Jacelyn Pena knocked in two goals and Miranda Demko and Delilah Boyle added one goal and one assist apiece for Hazleton Area.

Goalies Abigail Blum and Gracie Graziano teamed for five saves for the Lady Cougars.
