Milan Lucic’s return to the National Hockey League is on hold for now.

St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong told reporters on Tuesday that the veteran forward’s professional tryout with the team has expired and he’s currently dealing with an injury.

Army on Lucic: “He got banged up last couple of games. His PTO is obviously over. What we’re going to do is we’re going rehab him here and get him back health-wise to 100% and likely reconnect on an in-season PTO to get him up and running and see where he’s at then.” #stlblues

“He got banged up last couple of games,” Armstrong said (via The Athletic’s Jeremy Rutherford). “His PTO is obviously over. What we’re going to do is we’re going rehab him here and get him back health-wise to 100 per cent and likely reconnect on an in-season PTO to get him up and running and see where he’s at then.”

Lucic, 37, last played in the NHL during the 2023-2024 season when he appeared in four games for the Boston Bruins in a second stint with the club. The Vancouver native won a Stanley Cup with the team in 2011.

In two preseason games with the Blues, Lucic notched a pair of assists and averaged 11:58 of ice time.

For his career, Lucic has appeared in 1,177 games over 17 seasons with the Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames. He has 233 goals and 353 assists.

The Blues open up their 2025-2026 season on Thursday night at home to the Minnesota Wild.
