The San Jose Sharks have announced their five alternate captains for the 2025-26 season.

While Logan Couture was the captain last season, he never played a game. This season will be the second straight season where no player will wear the ‘C’ for the Sharks.

Tyler Toffoli, Macklin Celebrini, Alexander Wennberg, Mario Ferraro, and Barclay Goodrow will be the five players to wear a letter. Like Ferraro last season, Toffoli will be the only player who will have a letter on his jersey for every game.

“Each of the players that will serve as our leadership group for the 2025-26 season bring an important skillset and character to the room,” Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said in a release. “These individuals embody what it means to be a Shark, and the identity we want to have as a team. As a coaching staff, we are excited to have each of these players in a leadership role and setting an example for the rest of the group.”

Reactions to being named a captain of the Sharks

Toffoli: “I think it’s an honor for all of us. I don’t think it was necessarily a big deal for any decision that they’re going to make, and I think we’re all just excited to get the season.”

Celebrini: “It’s a huge honor to know that they trust me to be one of the leaders of the team and wear a letter on my jersey. It means a lot.”

Goodrow: “I think we have a good leadership group. We rely on each other a lot, and even the guys who aren’t wearing A’s. There are a lot of good leaders in here. It’s an honor to wear one and just look to be the best leader I can.”

Wennberg: “Everyone here is a leader. There are so many guys who have a letter or not; obviously, they pick a few guys, and to have the honor to be one of them, it’s great. Responsibility is something I really look forward to.”

Ferraro: “We brought some good veterans to the group. They’re going to make an impact. It’s real nice to have [Celebrini] fit into the group. He’s obviously a big part of this team already. He’s going to be the future of this organization, and it’s good to get him in that role pretty quickly.”
