The Toronto Blue Jays are going to the ALCS. And the Toronto Maple Leafs are 1-0.
It’s the first time the Blue Jays have won a playoff game on the same day the Maple Leafs won since 1993, according to OptaStats.

It’s a special time for the Blue Jays.
They’re coming off the AL East Division championship, and they erupted for 23 runs through the first games of the ALDS against the New York Yankees.
But then in the Blue Jays’ potential closeout game, the Yanks staged a massive comeback. The celebrations were stifled for a moment.

On Wednesday, though, the Blue Jays took care of business in a comfortable 5-2 win. That brings them to the ALCS, where they’ll await the winner of the decisive Game 5 between the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers.

The Maple Leafs are at the opposite end of their timeline. They took on the Montreal Canadiens to begin the 2025-26 NHL season.
In a game tied 2-2 after two periods, Toronto scored all three goals in the third to pull away for a season-opening victory.
Given how the schedules align, there could be the chance for a few more double Toronto wins to come. The city would certainly enjoy that.
