Ex-Detroit Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso will be joining the ranks of the AHL’s San Diego Gulls as his career hits an all-time low with the Anaheim Ducks organization.
Former Detroit Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso has been waived today by the Anaheim Ducks.
The team that recently signed the goalie to a contract has been made redundant, as he’ll be joining the AHL’s San Diego Gulls.
The Ducks signed him to a two-year deal on June 24th, 2025. His career record is 145 games played, with a 3.05 GAA and a .901 save percentage.
He’s played for three teams in the NHL: the St. Louis Blues, Detroit Red Wings, and Anaheim Ducks. The news sinks your heart, as the former 94th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft played only 4 games for the Ducks last season.
With Lukas Dostal‘s ascendancy as the new starting goalie in the organization and Petr Mrazek‘s arrival, his fate was sealed the moment the Czech-born netminder arrived.
His fate was sealed then.
Former Detroit Red Wings Goaltender Will Have to Fight to Get a Look in the NHL Again
The Ducks acquired Husso on February 24th, 2025, from the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations, and again he has found himself slipping down the depth charts, while newcomers and veterans take his place. This experience hasn’t been too dissimilar from Detroit, where Alex Lyon would take primacy over the net, along with Cam Talbot, who shared the crease at one point in 2024-25.
Otherwise, he’ll have to be a career insurance option in the AHL.
