There is only a week or two left in most Junior hockey seasons, so lets have a brief look at the remaining Edmonton Oilers prospects still playing.
There is exactly six Oilers prospects still playing.
Welcome to the TOR Edmonton Oilers prospect update. Each week, we’ll take a dive into how the Oilers’ prospects have done in their respective leagues. We have defined a prospect as a skater who has played fewer than 65 NHL games, and is younger than 25 years of age.
Contributions of Oilers prospects to their playoff Success
The reliables: Sam O’Reilly, and William Nicholl, London Knights, and Maxim Beryozkin, Lokomotiv Yarolslavl
London boasts an array of NHL prospects, that they flood the ice with every night. Sam O’Reilly sits fourth on the team in points. O’Reilly serves as a capable high energy two way threat, which is the a large reason why the Knights boast a 12-game winning streak in the playoffs. Nicholl serves as high quality depth and a consistent depth scoring threat that can abuse the bottom of the lineup opponents.
Maxim Beryozkin is mix of both quality middle-six depth, and a capable two-way threat for his KHL team. It’s safe to say he’s had a consistent and solid playoff run in all three zones of the ice.
The rookies: James Stefan, and Nathaniel Day, Fort Wayne Komets
James Stefan and Nathaniel Day both have the same struggle: they are simply adjusting to their first season in professional hockey. Both have shown flashes of significant upside, but also some battles with inconsistency has marred their playoffs.
The Rock: Bauer Berry, Muskegon Lumberjacks
The late rounder of the Oilers most recent draft is anything but flashy. Berry also doesn’t show up much on the scoresheet, but what he does bring is toughness, physicality, and a mean streak. He’s simply hard to battle every night for opposing teams. Every team needs one of these types of players.
Edmonton Oilers prospect updates
ECHL
Fort Wayne advanced in the playoffs beating the Iowa Heartlanders in seven after their April 29 game.
Their second round opponent is the Toledo Walleye, who they currently lead 2–1 in their series.
Nathaniel Day appeared in game one of the Toledo series, and struggled, letting in five goals on 26 shots. Brett Brochu has started games two and three accordingly.

Bauer Berry did not play a game this past week, but his team has advanced to the USHL league final.
OHL
The Barrie Colts got eliminated after getting swept by the Oshawa Generals, losing Game 3 7–6, and then dropping Game 4 8–4 on May 1st. Wakely finished off strong with an assist in Game 3, and a two point outting in Game 4.
Nicholl and O’Reilly are off to the OHL final after sweeping their third round opponent the Kitchener Rangers.
Russia
Beryozkin’s club Lokomotiv Yaroslavl pulled off four wins and are now advancing to the KHL final. The fourth and final round starts May 13 against Traktor Chelyabinsk. It’s a real possibility that Beryozkin becomes a KHL champion, which could make the Oilers pursuits in signing him much more difficult.
