The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety decided to hand down supplemental discipline to Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers on Sunday. After a big win on opening night against the Calgary Flames, the Vancouver Canucks were hoping to make it two wins from two games as they headed to Edmonton to take on the Oilers on Hockey Night in Canada.
Edmonton came out on top with a 3-1 victory, outshooting Vancouver 37 to 15, with the Canucks shooting themselves in the foot a bit, taking six minor penalties throughout the night, which won’t make Adam Foote very happy.
Closing in on the halfway point of the third period, Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers took a delay of game penalty when attempting to clear the puck out of his zone and has now been handed supplemental discipline by the league for another incident on the same play.
NHL Player Safety issues fine to Vancouver Canucks’ Tyler Myers
In a post on social media on Sunday morning, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced that they’ve handed Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers a $2,500 fine for a slash on Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid during last night’s game.
“Vancouver’s Tyler Myers has been fined $2,500 for slashing Edmonton’s Connor McDavid.” NHL Player Safety said on X.
The incident, as mentioned, occurred during the third period, as Connor McDavid was cutting to the net to give his team another option in front when Tyler Myers puts his stick between the legs of the Oilers captain and “cup checks” him.
To the surprise of some, Tyler Myers got away with the slash, only receiving the initial two-minute minor for delay of game, and also, accidently, hit the linesman in the head with his stick when heading to the penalty box.
“Quite the sequence for Tyler Myers
▪️Takes a delay of game penalty
▪️Cup checks McDavid
▪️Nearly decapitates the ref on the way to the box 😭” B/R Open Ice said on X.
Every game between Edmonton and Vancouver is an intense one, with plenty of emotion from both sides, and it’s going to be very interesting to see if anyone on the Oilers tries to seek retribution when the two teams meet again on Sunday, October 26th in the Lower Mainland.
