Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman and alternate captain Kris Letang did not practice Sunday at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. The team reported he is day-to-day because of a lower-body injury.
Letang left Saturday’s 6-1 loss at home against the New York Rangers early in the third period. He apparently got injured when he went into the boards on an attempted check.

Letang, 38, is one of the Penguins’ core players. He and centers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were honored at the team’s home opener Thursday as they begin their record-setting 20th season as teammates.
Letang has no points through the Penguins’ first three games.
Penguins injured forwards Rutger McGroarty (upper body) and Kevin Hayes (upper body), both on IR, worked out on the ice before practice.
