The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs Monday, 3-2, in Scotiabank Arena, and despite prevailing against their Original Six foes, they would suffer a major loss.

The team would end the game with a goal by Mason Appleton, sealing the fate of the game.

Though by chance, they would lose a vital player due to an injury.

After being boarded by Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev, forward Lucas Raymond would be taken out of the lineup.

Lucas Raymond’s Exit Leaves A Hole In The Lineup

With Raymond’s exit, the team had to shift gears and find a suitable replacement for the 1st line with Emmitt Finnie and Dylan Larkin.

That would end up being Mason Appleton, who would score the game-winning goal, shutting down the Maple Leafs for good.

The flexibility of the lineup has helped the team build resiliency and could signal that they’re ready to take the next step.

However, the troubling fact remains that they could be without forward Lucas Raymond for an indeterminate amount of time.

At the end of the game, the Red Wings hadn’t disclosed what kind of upper-body injury had been troubling Raymond.

But we suspect he’ll need further evaluation, as the situation doesn’t appear to be good for the future.

The Swedish forward is a former 80-point player and a staple on the 1st line; losing him for a significant amount of time could hurt the team’s progression this season.
