Day 1 of the IIHF Men’s World Championship kicked off yesterday with several Seattle Kraken players in action.
Czechia beat Switzerland 5-4 in overtime to start the tournament, but the game didn’t feature any Kraken players; the following game did. Finland and Eeli Tolvanen pulled out a narrow 2-1 win over Austria. The 26-year-old did not record any points, but his team came away with all three points.
The third game was a duel between Team USA and Denmark, featuring Kraken representation on both sides. Oscar Fisker Molgaard came out on the losing end and did not record a point in the shutout loss.
On the American side, Joey Daccord turned away all 26 shots he faced, recording a shutout in his World Championship debut. Up front, Matty Beniers recorded two goals to get his tournament started, eclipsing the total he set in his first time playing at the World Championship. Michael Eyssimont did not record a point on any of the five goals scored.
The final game of the day featured Adam Larsson and the hosts, Sweden, against Slovakia, where they too, won 5-0. Larsson picked up an assist on Jonas Brodin’s goal and Sweden limited Slovakia to just 15 shots on goal.
Day 2 will feature Brandon Montour, Ryker Evans, Philipp Grubauer, Larsson and Fisker Molgaard.
