Ottawa Senators Captain Brady Tkachuk will miss at least four weeks due to a right wrist injury he sustained in Monday’s game against the Nashville Predators, Head Coach Travis Green announced. The team is evaluating whether surgery will be needed and has estimated a four-week absence, at least.
Tkachuk landed awkwardly against the boards after a hit from Predators’ defenseman Roman Josi. The left wing left the game shortly after and was evaluated in the trainer’s room. Green said after the game that the absence was not precautionary.
Tkachuk has missed short periods of time in the past, but never longer than nine games. His four-week minimum means his earliest return is November 11 against the Dallas Stars, meaning at least a 13-game absence for the star winger.
The Ottawa Senators can place Tkachuk on injured reserve whenever they need a roster spot. That will likely come in conjunction with activating forward Drake Batherson, who is expected to come off injured reserve before Wednesday’s game, according to reporter Bruce Garrioch. Tkachuk is eligible for long-term injured reserve as well and can yield up to $3.82MM in salary cap relief.
