Logan Mailloux Scratched by Blues: What This Means for the Former Canadiens Defenseman

Logan Mailloux is going through a very difficult period since the start of the season, and the St. Louis Blues have decided to sideline him.

At least, the good news is that he was the last player to leave the ice at Friday’s practice, an image that speaks for itself.

Korac also mentioned that this decision is part of a long-term development process for the 22-year-old defenseman.

“Logan Mailloux was the last skater on the ice today. He will be a healthy scratch tomorrow. I think he understands this is a long-term process and small things like putting in extra work, even by himself, is part of that process that goes a long way towards development.”

The Blues want to help him regain confidence after a tough game

Wednesday night, once again, against the Chicago Blackhawks, Mailloux had a complicated evening. Directly involved in two opposing goals, he finished the game with a -4 plus-minus in 15 minutes and 57 seconds of ice time.

Acquired from the Montreal Canadiens in the trade involving Zachary Bolduc, Mailloux knew he would face high expectations in St. Louis. It’s fair to say he has clearly not met those expectations so far.

General Manager Doug Armstrong had even suggested he settle long-term in the city, convinced of his potential.

However, the reality of the NHL can be tough, and a young defenseman’s adjustment often takes time.

I think Korac summarized the situation well by emphasizing “long-term process”.

Even though I agree with Korac, I don’t think the Blues’ patience will last very long. I fear that Mailloux may lose his chance and will have to return to the American League, and very soon.
