One lucky senior in Western New York had a chance to have her wish granted and meet Buffalo Sabres’ head coach Lindy Ruff.

The non-profit Senior Wishes grant wishes for people over 65 years old, and this past Friday, one lucky senior had a chance to fulfill a dream of meeting Sabre head coach Lindy Ruff and some other players.

Buffalo Sabres Grant Special Senior Wish

This past Friday, Maxine, who is a lifelong Sabre fan and a big fan of current head coach Lindy Ruff had a chance to meet him after practice. She wore a Ruff jersey that she has had for 40 years. 

Ruff spent several minutes speaking with Maxine, and several Buffalo Sabres players came over to say hello and autographed her jersey. The Buffalo Sabres also presented Maxine with a special Lindy Ruff bobblehead.

According to Wendy Miller Backman, the executive director of Senior Wishes, Maxine said she would never forget this day. It was more than she could have dreamed of. 

Senior Wishes Grants Wishes For Seniors All Over Western New York

Senior Wishes is a non-profit that grants wishes that make a significant impact on a senior’s quality of life and bring them great joy. Wishes might be to reconnect with a loved one, visit a hometown, visit a favorite place, participate in an activity a person used to do, celebrate a passion, or more.

There are a couple of guidelines for seniors to meet in order to be eligible for a wish.

Must be a resident of Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, or Wyoming Counties in New York StateMust be 65 years of age or olderU.S. CitizenAnnual income must be less than $38,000 for a household of one or $44,000 for a household of two, or for a permanent resident of a care facilityMust be cognitively, emotionally, and physically capable of communicating and experiencing the wish. (You do NOT need a medical diagnosis to apply for a wish)Unable to fulfill the wish on your own or with family assistance
