The reason why the Vancouver Canucks decided to assign defenseman Victor Mancini to the American Hockey League this week has been revealed.

To make room for Jimmy Schuldt on Monday morning, the Vancouver Canucks made the difficult decision to send Victor Mancini down to the AHL and the reason why they did so has been revealed.

Victor Mancini has played well for the Vancouver Canucks this season, which includes a fight on Sunday afternoon against Brandon Duhaime of the Washington Capitals, so seeing him being sent down to the AHL was a little confusing.

In a recent article for Vancouver is Awesome, Daniel Wagner broke down why the Vancouver Canucks decided to assign the 23-year-old to Abbotsford and it all comes down to the salary cap.

According to Wagner, sending Victor Mancini to the AHL and calling up defenseman Jimmy Schuldt gave them a total of $76,667, which jumped to over $2.9 million once Nils Hoglander was officially shifted to long-term injured reserve (LTIR).”That’s why they swapped Mancini and Schuldt.

Mancini has an $870,000 cap hit, while Schuldt has a league-minimum $775,000 cap hit. Sending Mancini down to Abbotsford and calling up Schuldt brought the Canucks from $18,333 over the cap to $76,667 under the cap.” Wagner said.

With paper transactions now becoming extinct thanks to rules in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, which were moved up a year to include the 2025-26 season, Victor Mancini now must report to AHL Abbotsford and appear in a game for the club, with their next contest coming on Friday night when they raise their Calder Cup championship banner.

The Hancock, Michigan native might not be in Abbotsford for too long though, as he could return to the NHL roster as soon as Saturday, when the Vancouver Canucks return from their road trip to take on the Montreal Canadiens.
