Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Adin Hill will not travel on the team’s three-game east coast road trip and is considered week-to-week with a lower-body injury, according to head coach Bruce Cassidy.
Hill, 29, was injured in the first period of the Golden Knights’ 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, going down after making a save.
The 6-foot-4 netminder stayed on the ice for several minutes and needed support to return to the dressing room.
Hill has a 1-0-2 record this season with a 2.73 goals-against average and .888 save percentage.
Akira Schmid is expected to take the lead in net in Hill’s absence. Schmid was acquired by the Golden Knights, along with forward Alexander Holtz, from the New Jersey Devils in June in exchange for forward Paul Cotter and a draft pick.
The 25-year-old netminder has a 4-0-0 record this season with a 2.57 GAA and .899 save percentage.
Vegas recalled goaltender Carl Lindbom from the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights on Wednesday in response to Hill’s injury.
The 22-year old has only appeared in two games in the AHL this season and had a 18-15-5 record with Henderson last year with a 2.65 GAA and .912 save percentage.
The Golden Knights sit at the top of the Pacific Division early in the season with a 5-0-2 record and take on the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Saturday.
Additionally, defenceman Noah Hanifin will not join the Golden Knights on their road trip as he continues to recover from an undisclosed injury.
Hanifin, 28, hasn’t played since the Golden Knights’ season opening 6-5 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings, where he skated 24:00 in the loss.
The 6-foot-3 defenceman is in his third season in Vegas and had 10 goals and 39 points in 80 games last season while averaging 21:33 of ice time.
Forward Brett Howden participated in practice on Wednesday and is a possibility to play on Saturday after missing the team’s last four games with a lower-body injury.
The 6-foot-2 centre recorded a goal in three games this season and had 23 goals and 40 points in 80 games last year.
