Key Stories to Watch

Both teams will wear vintage jerseys, with the Avalanche donning Nordiques sweaters for the first time and the Hurricanes wearing Hartford Whalers white.
Brent Burns will be honored before puck drop for reaching 1,500 regular-season games. Burns played 246 games with the Hurricanes before signing with the Avs in July.
Neither team has had a successful power play despite their early-season success. Colorado is 30th in the league at 11.5% — one spot ahead of the 31st-place Hurricanes (8.5%).
The Avalanche are one of two teams without a regulation loss, and have a chance to extend that to eight games to start the season for just the third time in franchise history.
Carolina has just one loss, and could join the New Jersey Devils as the only teams with six wins in their first seven games.
Colorado’s Scott Wedgewood gets the nod once again, having played every game thus far.
