Both the Colorado Avalanche and the Carolina Hurricanes have pulled off the ultimate throwback night with Nordiques and Whalers sweaters for their game on Thursday.
Both the Colorado Avalanche and the Carolina Hurricanes are giving their fans a great dose of nostalgia with their sweaters for their game.
The Avalanche brought back the sweaters of the Quebec Nordiques, their previous identity before they relocated to Denver in 1995. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes once again broke out their classic Hartford Whalers sweaters that they have worn on multiple occasions.
The Whalers moved to Raleigh in time for the 1997-1998 season.
The sweaters for both teams drew rave reviews from fans, who loved the throwback to the past of a more classic era in the NHL.
The NHL Has No Plans to Return to Quebec
Fans in Quebec City have been pining for a return of NHL hockey, and there is even an NHL-ready venue in the city that they hoped would convince Commissioner Gary Bettman to give the city another chance.
(Quebec’s market) loves its hockey, and it’s been itching to get pro hockey at the NHL level back in Quebec City. I still believe we’re a ways away.
The expansion process isn’t (on the NHL’s docket) but it doesn’t mean they’re not talking to willing participants and interested parties from Atlanta. We know there are two groups. Houston, there’s a group they’re trying to build up on. Arizona with the new, with the Sun’s owner now into the mix and expressing interest in bringing a team back to Phoenix/Scottsdale. – David Pagnotta
