With 10 percent of the season in the books, we have a good idea of whether or not some of the current Canadiens trends are sustainable, or if they’re a flash in the pan situation. Can Caufield keep up his scoring pace? Will Ivan Demidov and Oliver Kapanen play well enough to maintain their roles in the top six? The numbers paint a telling story. According to Brendan Gallagher, the referees admitted the boarding penalty on Juraj Slafkovsky, which set off a chain of unfortunate events for the Canadiens, was a mistake. Surprisingly, the NHL is yet to announce a fine for Habs forward Cole Caufield, who did not hold back when discussing the officiating versus the Oilers. We now have footage of the unsportsmanlike penalty given to Josh Anderson in the third period. The Pittsburgh Penguins weathered 81 shot attempts against Thursday night, but claimed a resilient 5-3 win over the Florida Panthers at Amerant Bank Arena. The win was their fourth in a row and followed a 5-1 beatdown of the Vancouver Canucks, which followed winning the final two games on the three-game West Coast swing. But despite the results, it’s clear the Penguins are not following a sustainable path. [Pittsburgh Penguins]

Over the course of the early season losing skid, the Boston Bruins have at least been able to look themselves in the mirror and say, even through gritted teeth, that at least they gave themselves a chance. But after losing their sixth straight game on Tuesday night, 7-5, to the Anaheim Ducks at TD Garden, the Bruins are unable to accept those words anymore. Now, they just ring hollow. [Boston Bruins]
