The Grand Rapids Griffins have never had a better five-game start to a season than they are having during their 30th year celebration.

Coach Dan Watson’s Griffins used a 30-save night by Sebastian Cossa to topple the Manitoba Moose 4-0 Friday and tie the franchise record with a 5-0 start. The last time the Griffins accomplished that was in 2004-05.

Veteran John Leonard led the attack with two goals and an assist. He boasts five goals in his past three games. But it was also another good game for Detroit prospects with Cossa selected as the No. 1 star and Nate Danielson contributing two assists in his first game of the season.

Amadeus Lombardi also added his fifth assist of the season. Defenseman William Wallinder and forward Carter Mazur were plus-2 in the game.

The Griffins don’t play again until Tuesday when they play a road game at Iowa.
