The Seattle Kraken lost a key player to injured reserve but also had one return to the team ahead of Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers.
The Kraken announced that standout forward Jared McCann was placed on IR with a lower-body injury. They also announced defenseman Brandon Montour returned to the team.

McCann has missed the Kraken’s past three games. Coach Lane Lambert told reporters Saturday the forward was “day-to-day.”
McCann, who joined Seattle during its inaugural season in 2021-22, is the franchise’s all-time leader in points (247) and goals (121). The 29-year-old had a team-high three goals and one assist in five games before the injury. He led the Kraken with 61 points (22 goals, 29 assists) while playing all 82 games last season.
Montour was away from the team for four games while attending to the death of his older brother, NHL.com’s Bob Condor reported Saturday.
The 31-year-old defenseman has four assists in four games this season. He had 41 points (18 goals, 23 assists) over 81 games in the first season of a seven-year, $50 million contract in 2024-25.
Lambert also said 24-year-old forward Kaapo Kakko remains day-to-day as he works his way back from a broken hand suffered in a Sept. 24 preseason game. He was initially expected to miss approximately six weeks.
The Kraken entered Saturday with 4-2-2 record and in second place in the Pacific Division with 10 points.
