The Edmonton Oilers played a tough game against the Seattle Kraken last night, and lost a close game by a score of 3-2.

Seattle Kraken analysts call out goaltending as true difference in game vs. Oilers

Skinner finished the night with 20 saves on 23 shots, for an .870 save percentage. That’s the kind of performance that’s not good enough.

The Kraken’s first goal by Jordan Eberle simply leaked through Skinner, even though he was able to get across the crease. The puck went by Skinner’s left shoulder, but he popped up his right instead.

On the second goal against, Skinner was entirely unable to move post-to-post in his net on a very wide 2 on 1 rush. His slow lateral movement was called out by Kraken analysts.

While the Oilers surrendered 2 weak goals against, the Kraken were getting a stellar performance from goaltender Joey Daccord.

Once again, that’s one of the drawbacks of having the second best goalie in most games. So many times the Oilers are faced with an impenetrable goaltender while their own side lets in a few softies – and that can decide the game at the NHL level.

If these sorts of games persists from Skinner, the Oilers will be forced to finally make a trade and address their weakness in net. After McDavid’s discount, the Oilers are going to be ultra-aggressive in their pursuit of a Stanley Cup.
